In an anime littered with blood, crushed skulls, and dismembered limbs a single scene made me audibly say, “what the fuck?” Episode 1, A New Life, shows a prolonged scene of the sisters, Elaine and Diana, being born. As the story unfolds it becomes vaguely clear, through the spray of blood and cyber-organic fluid, that nihilism and the human relationship with advancing technology take center stage in this post-apocalyptic cyber-punk tale. The story follows the birth of a being known as Genocyber, a cyber-organic weapon created by merging 2 psychic sisters with the use of cybernetic technology. Upon its release, Genocyber was heavily criticized for its hyper-violent scenes and its unapologetic display of gore and disregard for life. The manga was created by Tony Takezaki in 1992 but was never finished. Genocyber was released as a 5-part original video animation (OVA) in 1994 and is loosely based on the manga, Genocyber: Cyber Monster from Imaginary World. Later, the Nina-Alexander chimera is put to rest by one of the story’s antagonists, Scar. In desperation to create another infamous experiment, Tucker sacrifices his daughter, fusing her with the family dog, Alexander. As the episode unfolds, we discover that Tucker’s creation of the talking chimera came with the sacrifice of his wife, Nina’s mother. However, he has been unable to reproduce the experiment, or create anything substantial since. ![]() Tucker is a highly respected State Alchemist known for creating a talking chimera. In episode 7, Night of the Chimera’s Cry, (Or episode 4: An Alchemist’s Distress | Brotherhood) we are introduced to Shou Tucker, the Sewing-Life Alchemist, and his daughter, Nina.
